“Young & Thriving” by Rodes Rollins

Rodes Rollins is a fresh songster based in Los Feliz who recently leaked the first single, “Young & Thriving,” off her forthcoming debut EP Young Adult. Produced by Alex Goose (Kevin Gates, Weezer) and featuring Stella Mozgawa (of Warpaint) on drums, the nostalgic song channels a desert nightscape via a somber blend of echoing guitar lines, psychedelic tones, and a very hypnotic voice.

“Moonrise will haunt you til cold.”

“Oh Allen” by The Relationship

TR PROMO 1Don’t call them a supergroup, but The Relationship was founded by guitarists Brian Bell (of Weezer) and Nate Shaw (of U.S. Bombs) who recently recruited Jon LaRue and Anthony Burulcich (of The Bravery) as their new rhythm section. On April 8th, the rock vets will follow up their self-titled debut LP by releasing a 7″ via Burger Records –a consummate collaboration between a label spearheading the SoCal garage rawk revival and a band directly influenced by the original scene. Here’s the record’s A-side, “Oh Allen,” which is an unapologetic throwback to power pop rock built on solid guitar work slinging clean melodic hooks:

The Relationship will perform tonight (April 1st) and April 8th at The Viper Room.

"Two Colours" Music Video By Legs

LegsHorizWest Oakland‘s Legs formed after Jeffrey Harland and Matt Bullimore met while exchanging Weezer bootlegs in a grocery store parking lot in early 2000. Over a decade and three additional band members later, the band is finally releasing their debut LP Pass The Ringo via local label Loglady Records.

The album is a hazy homage to jangle pop as evident by the music video for their first single “Two Colours.” Directed by Harland, the slow motion video focuses on co-vocalist Amelia Adams caught in a psychedelic daydream with smoke, confetti, and her bandmate’s performing ghosts:

Legs is currently on tour.
