Huxlee is the project of Topanga Canyon native Caitlin Notey. Her sophomore EP, Teammate, was recently released and oft-channels the indie folk-rock grandeur of Jenny Lewis. But its title track was cut from a different pantsuit with manifold percussion, jazz-ish rhythms, and brutally open lyrics.

For over a decade Scott Simons (keys) and Dani Buncher (drums) dated each other. But that all ended one day when Buncher came out to her boyfriend. Years went by before they reunited, except this time as bandmates. Now based in Weho, TeamMate‘s debut EP, The Sequel (Rostrum Records), was a buoyant blast of synth pop caught between Parade of Lights and Owl City. Now back with a leaked track (“Don’t Count Me Out”) off their forthcoming LP, the coed duo promise us an eventual epic breakthrough:
