“Cold” by Mating Ritual (Lizzy Land remix)

Lizzy Land returns with an electronic remix of the single “Cold” by Mating Ritual. Perhaps the stunning songstress decided this was suitable since she co-wrote the original and is also a performing member of the band. The “rework” (as she calls it) breathes a fuller vibrance into the track via additional digi-beats and synth twinkles without losing its midtempo glide. And of course, her soothing sharp vox is allowed to aptly shine.

“I think I’ve seen enough of you.”

Mating Ritual will perform on June 18th at Chinatown Summer Nights.

“Dusty Springfield” by The Fontaines (Alternate Mix)

Sibling duo The Fontaines never cease to be adorable. Here they return with an alternate mix of their popular new-wop single “Dusty Springfield” which Hank Fontaine created to give the song “a rawer sound that might reveal some quirks and flaws.” And of course, the result is just as charming with a talkbox guitar solo.

“I don’t wanna pray out loud.”

Tonight (November 13th), The Fontaines continue their November residency at The Virgil.

“Heavy Loss” by MOTION CNTRL (Haides remix)

motioncntrolpress1Coed duo MOTION CNTRL recently released their self-titled debut EP filled with retro-inspired, spacial synth-pop. Dark yet danceable, the collection is an entrancing experience due to vocalist Allyce Engelson oh-so-lush vox and Luke Mertz’s infectiously engaging digi-rhythms such as on the opening track “Heavy Loss.” And here’s Haides‘ remix of the song which splices the single in pulses of sharp synths and downbeat percussion.

“The pleasure’s all mine.”

“Don’t Say No” (feat. Dresses) by Cheat Codes (The Ready Set remix)

IMG_7810Cheat Codes‘ tropical-infused track, “Don’t Say No” (feat. Dresses), grooves along with organic percussion (steel drums) as well as shooting synths. The song has already received an impressive dance pop meets neo-R&B remix by Milk N Cooks, but Jordan Witzigreuter (aka The Ready Set) decided to create his own brooding, electro-pop version due to his close relationships with Trevor Dahl (of Cheat Codes) and Jared Ryan Maldonado (of Dresses) as co-collaborators on the indie pop project Cold Shoulders. Here’s what he had to say about his own spin:

“I was stoked to do this. I’ve been friends with these dudes forever and I think the song is great and so catchy. I wanted to put a kind of darker spin on the sound. I think it turned out pretty sweet.”

Cheat Codes will soon be on The Chainsmokers‘ Friendzone Tour.

"Gold Blooded" by Wrongchilde (EchoDroides remix) (Premiere)

IMG_3894When Mat Devine (frontman of Kill Hannah) moved from New York to Los Angeles, he embraced the sunshine and naturally pivoted his music’s digi-tendencies from goth to pop. The result is the side-project Wrongchilde, whose debut album, Gold Blooded, was recently released via Sad Bat Music with guest appearances by Gerard Way (formerly of My Chemical Romance), Morgan Kibby (of White Sea and M83) and Sierra Kusterbeck (of Versa). Its title track is a soaring indie rock anthem with synth pop layers and here’s Devine’s comments on its inspiration:

“I left New York on one of the bleakest, grayest winter days and the second I got to L.A. it was like a blood transfusion; the sunlight, the openness –it was so inspiring. I wrote this song on that day and it just symbolized everything I was feeling: The need to keep the spirit of youthfulness alive. A battle cry against all of the things that try to snuff out the fire inside us.

The kids’ dialog in the bridge was stolen from the 1963 film version of Lord of the Flies. The lyrics were inspired by a crazy beautiful week I spent on the ocean with friends –painting our faces, feeding wine to horses, exploring ancient smuggling tunnels, jumping off cliffs… just being wild and feral.

Being raised in the brutal winters of Chicago, I never thought I’d ever be in a California-based band but Wrongchilde came together so organically out here. Like it was always meant to happen.”
