"Hold" by Miakoda

Miakoda Press Photo #1Valentina Mitzkat and Brad Reaume began Miakoda as a Noho studio project based on their mutual admiration of “movie scores and apocalyptic themes.” When the world didn’t end in 2012, the coed duo decided to finally expose their cinematically influenced grandeur pop. The result is an evocative wave of orchestrated sonics carried by Mitzkat’s soaring vox such as on “Hold” off their recently released debut EP Tie A Knot:

Miakoda will perform this Friday, May 2nd at Lyric Hyperion Theater for their EP release party and music video premiere for “Going Home” along with BEGINNERS and Broken Anchor. Tickets are available here.

"Others" by FLORALS

rooftop 2FLORALS formed after three musician friends (a vocalist, a guitarist, and a producer) decided they would collaborate without any expectations. The result is an uncanny delivery of pop tranquility. Their first leaked single, “Others,” floats on experimental effects, downtempo beats, ambient tones, and a breathy lush voice.

The Miracle Mile-based trio will release their debut EP, Later Age, tomorrow (Tuesday, April 29th) and perform at Los Globos along with THIEVES and Moon Honey.

"Out Of My Head" (feat. Codi Caraco) by Zak Waters

ZW2014PRESS-1Zak Waters has always wanted to make you dance, and his brand of electro funk has always delivered. But after spending a national tour with Cardiknox and Aussie poptress Betty Who, Waters may have been inspired by the power of blatant dance pop. The result is “Out Of My Head”: a digital hit which crescendos into a summer pool party blast off courtesy of his signature neo-synths. And while we might miss Waters’ soulful vocals on this track, Codi Caraco‘s airy voice is more apt for the vibe:

Zak Waters will soon join DWNTWN at the Constellation Room and Neck of the Woods.

"Grow" and "Keep Good Habits" by Quantum Keys

quantumkeys1Quantum Keys is the sunshine pop moniker of John Gudenzi who began his L.A. music path after recording in a Hermosa Beach basement when he wasn’t surfing at El Porto. And this helps explain his music’s buoyant beach vibe with retro psychedelic flirtation. Hit City U.S.A. released his new tracks “Grow” and “Keep Good Habits” today, so skip in the sand and sing along:

“Now that spring has started, it’s time for us to grow.”

"Stoned To The Bone" by The Cigarette Bums

IMG_4913You can’t be more authentically lo-fi than The Cigarette Bums. The Silver Lake band proudly coats a ceaseless fuzz over their retro garage-pop as if stolen from a long-lost beach bash flick. Fronted by bassist Steven Carrera along with drummer Paul Carter (of Snow Wite) and guitarist Jaime Rosas, the trio is currently recording their next release, Son Of The Bums (Lolipop Records), with Wyatt Blair producing. It’s not due until this summer, but for now you can enjoy “Stoned To The Bone” off their last EP Holy Smokes:

And here’s their self-made tour video featuring the song:

The Cigarette Bums next perform at KXSC Fest this Saturday, March 29th.

And later that day at Sick City Fest at The Redwood Bar.
