“Technopoly Conversations” Music Video by mini bear (Premiere)

mini bear (a.k.a. Lauren Kop) recently returned by releasing her sophomore EP, Mind Control, via New Professor Music. Mixed and mastered by Allene Norton (of CELLARS), the songs continue Kop’s signature style of darkish retrowave pop via analog synths, danceable digi-beats, and haunting vocals. Here’s the eerie single “Technopoly Conversations” which features Norton on backing vocals and Danny Fluck on synth bass.

“Your truths hide in the depths of your heart.”

And here’s the song’s music video which was shot in DTLA, directed by Nova Rockafeller and Kavan The Kid, features bright animations by Robin Eisenberg, and Sydney Banta (of L.A. Girlfriend) and Taleen Kali (of TÜLIPS) as Robert Palmer-inspired backup dancers. Kop claims the video’s concept is a “neon dream” where she “receives a call from her future self to give a warning that the future is rapidly approaching and she will no longer be human.” The result is smoky, trippy, and reliably rad.

mini bear‘s EP release party is on October 7th at Resident.

“Life I Know” Music Video by Creature Canyon (Premiere)

Creature Canyon is a band of rad dudes based out of Rancho Peñasquitos. Their debut album, Life I Know, is a groovy, spastic blend of indie rock riffs delivered with a bluesy throwback such as on the title track.

“I’m living the life I know.”

And of course, such a riveting song deserves a fun music video. Shot at their bassist’s house, a local bar, and in an Old Town alleyway (among other places), the video aptly captures the band’s spontaneously energetic and hilarious personas.

Creature Canyon will perform on September 22nd at the Make-Out Room.

“Follow Me” Music Video by Gypsum (Premiere)

Gypsum is a rad new band made up of four young women who first met as college students while living in West Adams. Their debut single, “Follow Me,” is a prog rock blast of psychedelic intricacies and riveting riffs all enraptured by the booming chorus and its haunting harmonies.

“Come quickly, we’re leaving the city.”

And naturally, the song deserves an equally enticing, David Lynch-inspired music video which was shot at a co-op house in their local hood and features the band conducting a very nefarious act.

“That’s me in the spotlight losing my religion.”

And here’s the cover’s equally as strong music video as directed by Jen Rosenstein:
