“Summer Sucks” by shallows

shallows is the new project of vocalist Dani Poppitt and guitarist/producer Marshall Gallagher. After collaborating in a dilapidated dining room studio in Koreatown, the duo conjured their debut single “Summer Sucks.” The superb pop song focuses on Poppitt’s dreamy vox which harkens “a tired relationship under the slow crushing weight of the latest California heat wave” over shimmery synths and neo-disco beats.

“It’s better to want you than to have you.”

“Before The Storm” Music Video by r e l

r e l returns by leaking another “evoca pop” single, “Before The Storm,” off her forthcoming debut album. The dark pop song dwells on brooding synths, trip-pop beats, and r e l‘s reliably potent voice addressing the turmoil of a breakup.

“I let you know I liked it slow.”

And here’s its equally striking music video filmed at Redondo Beach and a boxing gym in K-Town by directors Braulio and Jose Espinoza.
