"Desert Island" Music Video by Mystic Braves

mysticbraves_promoSpread all across SoCal, is a vibrant scene rejuvenating the ’60s surf vibe via lo-fi recordings of garage pop and groovy psychelida. And leading the wave in Echo Park is a quintet called Mystic Braves. As fervent members of Lolipop Records‘ collective, they’ve helped curate a fertile milieu with akin bands, local venues, and a recording studio. Their second full-length, Desert Island, is due April 29th and continues their signature vintage sound through hazy tones and trippy textures.

Here’s the suitable desert music video for the album’s title track:

Mystic Braves will continue their April residency at The Echo tonight along with Corners, Joel Jerome and Babies On Acid, and Drinking Flowers.

And a national spring tour.

And a summer West Coast tour.

"Stoned To The Bone" by The Cigarette Bums

IMG_4913You can’t be more authentically lo-fi than The Cigarette Bums. The Silver Lake band proudly coats a ceaseless fuzz over their retro garage-pop as if stolen from a long-lost beach bash flick. Fronted by bassist Steven Carrera along with drummer Paul Carter (of Snow Wite) and guitarist Jaime Rosas, the trio is currently recording their next release, Son Of The Bums (Lolipop Records), with Wyatt Blair producing. It’s not due until this summer, but for now you can enjoy “Stoned To The Bone” off their last EP Holy Smokes:

And here’s their self-made tour video featuring the song:

The Cigarette Bums next perform at KXSC Fest this Saturday, March 29th.

And later that day at Sick City Fest at The Redwood Bar.

"Heartbreakers" by Rainbow Jackson (Premiere)

DSC_0454Rainbow Jackson has been busy. When they aren’t writing songs or tattooing each other at their communal home in Echo Park (previously shared with Vanaprasta), they’ve been playing every stage, parking lot, and hole in the wall throughout the city –or at least skating around it. Their raw guitar riffs allow them to blend in with the garage rock crowd, but lying beneath their denim vests is a heart for epic melodies. Their second EP, Perpetual Summer, will be released digitally on February 18th and via vinyl on March 5th by Kill/Hurt Records. Here’s its opening track “Heartbreakers” which shreds like a Southern rock ripper:

“You had me at, ‘Do you like Tom Petty?'”

"Slow Days Fast Company" Music Video by Blonde Summer

Silver Lake pop rockers Blonde Summer created a music video for their catchy single “Slow Days Fast Company” off their second EP Slow Daze. Vocalist/guitarist Chris Pope co-directed it with his best friend Tristan Hawks as they filmed the underwater scenes at Hawks’ pool in Joshua Tree. Pope recounts:

“It seemed easy… but it was actually super hard and we couldn’t believe how long we needed to hold our breath underwater. We had fun though!”

Blonde Summer will perform with Miner and Future Ghost for The Dead Ships‘ homecoming after tour show at The Echo this Thursday. You can purchase tickets here.
