"Ohio" by The Cerny Brothers

IMG_9491Ever since The Cerny Brothers released their self-titled album this past May, they’ve stomped out folk rock on stages from Hollywood to Venice Beach. Their sound is genuine as the brothers come from rural Illinois, but now they call West LA home. Their roots vibe wins over crowds all over the city maybe because Angelenos have never experienced such original and organic Americana. So here’s a taste with their nostalgia brewing “Ohio”:

“Home… I think about you all the time.”

And here’s a live video of the song mostly shot at the band’s rehearsal space in the basement of a West LA church:

Free Bike Valet is proud to present The Cerny Brothers‘ show tonight at the Bootleg Bar for Miner‘s first residency show for the month of July. Also performing is Harper Blynn and Tyler Lyle. The night’s theme is “Dinner and a Show” as the Moe Deli and Komodo food trucks will be on-site. Come out, admission is FREE!

"Werewolf" by Tyler Lyle

Tyler_Lyle_Shot_03_0601Tyler Lyle is a young man from Georgia who took the legendary advice of Horace Greeley and went west (to Santa Monica). So far, the self-described “old soul” has managed to keep his folk roots but his lyrics have skewed towards the coastal lifestyle. His latest (and fourth) EP Expatriates is his first Cali written release after his stellar debut album The Golden Age And The Silver Girl. The new songs can carry a bittersweet June Gloom vibe but always spark enough light to burn through. Or as Tyler explains…

“This is for the last few dark cold days of winter when the books are heavier, the thoughts are stranger, and the light is more foreign.”

Maybe we can expect more sunshine to radiate off his next release, but for now embrace his single “Werewolf” (with harmonies by Molly Parden):

"Skinny Love" Live Video by Sunday Lane & Max Helmerich (Cover)

SundayLaneSanta Monica‘s Sunday Lane is a petite piano poptress whose songs evoke a good morning: bright, refreshed, and full of optimism. But one evening at her parent’s empty rural house in Tulsa, she collaborated with her brother Max Helmerich on covering one of Bon Iver‘s most beloved songs: “Skinny Love.” Director Nathan Presley floats around the room unnoticed like a ghost and captures the singers’ intimate duet. Perhaps this is how Justin Vernon truly meant for this song to be played: as an open confession sung between a man and a woman.

Sunday Lane‘s debut full length album is From Where You Are.

Hey Mez EP by Jemez Mountain Hawkz

Jemez Mountain Hawkz (“J” pronounced as “H”) makes folk rock with a classic vibe that harks to the California days without smog or traffic. A time when weekend roads trips along the coast offered complete freedom from technology and stress. And now thanks to this veteran Echo Park-based collective, (which includes Ian Moore and former members of The Shins and Scared Of Chaka) you can sonically travel back to a nostalgic time when our parents were young, tan, and did things they don’t want us to know about.

Jemez Mountain Hawkz just released their debut EP Hey Mez:
