CLARA-NOVA is the nom de plume of Echo Park-based singer-songwriter Sydney Wayser who claims to have conjured the moniker during a dream. She recently collaborated with producer Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes, Julian Casablancas) for her debut EP, The Bronze Age, (dropping October 30th via The Cherry Party) and lists “deep-sea dance parties, ancient Egyptian rituals and Martian folklore” amongst its inspiration. While her concept may imply freak folk, her music is superbly swirling, orchestrated chamber pop carried by buoyant rhythms, majestic melodies, and electronic textures. Here’s her latest single “An Island.”
“I saw it in the waves today.”
CLARA-NOVA recently performed the song for BalconyTV in Los Angeles.
