PANTHAR is an Echo Park-based new wave act founded by vocalist/keyboardist Shelina Louise (formerly of Cool Moms and Kat Kong) and drummer Jared Caldwell. They claim to play new wave, but it’s not the type of new wave once played with keytars and now accompanied with beat pads. Oh no, PANTHAR plays the type of new wave that shares bills with mohawked street punks in dark sweaty venues, er, basements. But what else would you expect from a band who named themselves after a taxidermic bobcat? Their latest single, “Too Hot,” is leaked off their forthcoming debut EP via Lolipop Records and is a dancy, post-punk “ode to sticky LA summers.” Just imagine if Le Tigre and Delta 5 had a really good sunburn.
“This heat is making me want you.”
