Mereki might be more renown as a songwriter (Kylie Minogue) or Goldroom‘s guest vocalist, but periodically she’ll remind everyone she too possesses her own power anthems. The Echo Park (by way of Australia) denizen returns with a sneak attack single, “Nothing Matters,” built on guitar riffs, retro digi-beats, and a breathy, sing-talk perspective on party problems. It’s edgy, high-kicking indie pop, that she dubs “future punk.” This summer, look out for her forthcoming debut EP produced by Justin Raisen (Charli XCX, Sky Ferreira).
“You know that life is short, so baby come on do what you want!”
Mereki will perform tonight (5-14) at Bootleg HiFi.
