"Florence Girls" by Roses

IMG_0908-2Roses spawned when guitarist Juan Velasquez (ex-Abe Vigoda) met vocalist/keyboardist Marc Steinberg at a local gay bar and bonded over “alt heroines” such as Yoko Ono, Julee Cruise, and Marianne Faithful. Velasquez then recruited bassist Victor Herrera who he met through shows at The Smell and bonded over female-fronted “jangle pop” bands such as 10,000 Maniacs, The Sundays, and The Cranberries. Now the Echo Park trio is currently recording their debut EP, Dreamlover (Group Tightener Records), with producer Alex Degroot (of Zola Jesus) and judging by its first leaked track, “Florence Girls,” it’ll be an unapologetic post-punk throwback (a la The Cure) shaded by clouds of synth pop:

Roses will next perform on July 16th at Bootleg HiFi along with A Sunny Day In Glasgow and United Ghosts. And then on July 22nd at The Echo with CymbalsWunder Wunder, and Strangeheart.
