"Blind and Brave" by The Wild Reeds (Premiere)

6 (1 of 1)Hollywood isn’t just glam, graffiti, and gutter punks as the folksters in The Wild Reeds can attest. As college students, Kinsey Lee (vocals/banjo) and Sharon Silva (vocals/guitar) founded the band after meeting at a Lisa Hannigan concert and monikered themselves after a Chinese proverb. They eventually recruited Mackenzie Howe (vocals/guitar/banjo) and a male rhythm section (drummer Nick Jones and bassist Nick Phakpiseth) to complete their dynamic lineup filled with random Americana instruments (harmonium, autoharp). The trio of gals are all songwriters and claim diverse influences, but in unison they sing harmonies as if long-lost triplets reunited at a campfire. Their third album, Blind and Brave, was produced by the reliable Raymond Richards (Local Natives, Avid Dancer) and pushes the band into a fuller, deeper range on par with their enduring potential. Here’s its swooning title track:

The Wild Reeds‘ album release show will be on August 9th at the Troubadour along with Brother Grand and Kera & The Lesbians.
